What is poker?

Basically poker is a card game and the most popular of a class of games called vying games in which players with fully or partially concealed cards make wagers into a central pot after which the pot is awarded to the remaining player or players with the best combination of cards. It can also be refered to Video Poker which is a single-player game seen in casinos much like a slot machine and hence majority of poker games do share some common features, especially betting in rounds and the ranking of hands. Poker is commonly played in cardrooms often within casinos that seem to divide into stud games, draw games, and flop games and it is played even in private home games where anything goes, including games that seem to have no reason to be called poker. Here some poker superstars.

.)  Kirill Gerasimov: is a brilliant young Russian player, 26 years old, and winner of the World Heads Up Championship in 2002 and has already won No Limit Holdem tournaments in Paris and Vienna also finished 2nd in the $25,000 World Poker Tour Bellagio Event, in April 2003, taking home a half a million dollars..

.)  Phil Ivey : he is called the "Tiger Woods" of poker, because he is world class at his sport, young,  black and was one of the hottest players in 2002 WSOP.  He also took home three gold bracelets in 2002.

.)  John Juanda: he is 31 year old, originally from Indonesia won his first gold bracelet in 2002 also has won many major tournaments. He is currently leading overall points for Player of the Year and was second in 2001.

.)  Daniel Negreanu: he is a young Canadian who moved to Las Vegas to play poker fulltime and in 1998; Canadian Daniel Negreanu became the youngest World Series of Poker winner in history when he won the $2000 Pot Limit Texas Hold’em event at the age of 23.

.)  Allen Cunningham: he is said to be the brightest and politest young stars in poker at the age of 25 years.  He had been studying civil engineering at UCLA but, deciding it wasn't for him and began playing poker at Indian casinos when he was 18.  He has ice in his veins and nearly impossible to read but he has won two WSOP gold bracelets to date.

.)  Julian Gardner: he is an accomplished young poker pro from Britain who earned $1million finishing in 2nd place this year in the WSOP Main Event and was the youngest millionaire in WSOP history.

.)  Layne Flack: he is 28 years old, from Montana and he is known to be very aggressive who also has no fear in the game; he won two gold bracelets back-to-back In WSOP 2002.

.)  Erik Sagstrom: he is taking the online poker world by storm, and can be heard from at twoplustwo.com or RGP poker discussion groups; and if you believe the Brits, like the Hendon Mob, they are all saying that this young Swedish kid is the next superstar in poker.

.)  Huck Seed: he became World Champion when he was 27 years old, winning the WSOP Main Event in 1996 and he didn't win another bracelet until 2000.

.)  Perry Friedman: he is another big contributor to the online world, frequently posting on RGP poker newsgroup though he may not stay on the list at the age of 34.  He won his first WSOP bracelet in 2002 and he is also a founding member of The Tiltboys, a group of poker thugs.
