Teen Pokers

by Jerry "Jet" Whittaker

March 11, 2006

Teen poking is a type of rage now with some parents even supporting kids' poker parties. Addiction experts wonder whether stakes played by teens are too high. These are teen poker nights in countless American homes. Holiday seasons are sure to find teens chilling and bluffing their way into the New Year as a host of market indicators. This is also a good measure of mounting concern as speaking to a stunning passion among young people for a game traditionally associated with gruff men and stinky cigars. Poker mania is being hawked everywhere from supermarkets to teen emporiums. But gambling addiction experts warn that poker could be a slippery slope into other high-risk activities. Nowadays it is catching rage as it is flicking on television. Expanding poker tournament coverage on major sports channels and the travel channels has some compelling effects. The slickly produced shows have taught kids the fundamentals of a wildly popular version of the game. This type of game challenges players to incorporate face-up table cards into their hands. Television has also given celebrity status to a hip generation of poker stars who can lose tens of thousands.

Poker game

Poker is simply a card game. Vying games is the most popular of a class of games. In this game players with fully or partially concealed cards make wagers into a central pot. After this the pot is awarded to the remaining player or players with the best combination of cards. One must learn the basic rules and procedures of the game. The values of the various combinations of cards and the rules about betting limits should be known. The knowledge of the equipment used to play is useful. Draw poker, stud poker, community card poker also called widow game and miscellaneous poker games are also there and known as variants of poker. Five-card draw, seven-card stud and Texas hold are the most commonly played games. Each of these games is a common starting point for learning games of the type. One more way of poker to play is a way to play poker by Dealers choice.

But… A need for concern.

There is wide range of concern in gambling experts who warn that poker-mad teens are sailing a small sailboat into a menacing typhoon that could lead to a gambling addiction as well as other risky activities. For example drug abuse. Teens are gambling with their health while playing poker as for some people this can get very serious indeed. But after all they are teens. Today’s hot thing might not be tomorrow.
