February 17, 2006

Gambling includes all gambling behavior patterns that compromise, disrupt or damage personal, family or vocational pursuits and the essential features of gambling are increasing preoccupation with gambling, a need to bet more money more frequently, restlessness or irritability when attempting to stop, chasing losses, and loss of control manifested by continuation of the gambling behavior in spite of mounting, serious, negative consequences. While in extreme cases, problem gambling can result in financial ruin, legal problems, loss of career and family, or even suicide and these effects the family members, children, close friends, your job and also ruins your life. Therefore there is some council that helps us to stop gambling.

Councils on gambling are:

The most known council is the ‘National Council on Problem Gambling’ and its mission is to increase public awareness of pathological gambling, ensure the widespread availability of treatment for problem gamblers and their families, and to encourage research and programs for prevention and education as we known problem gambling is gambling behavior which causes disruptions in any major area of life: psychological, physical, social or vocational.

While another one is, ‘Council of Australian Governments' Communiqué’ where it agreed that preventing and addressing the negative consequences from problem gambling are the joint responsibilities of governments, the gambling industry, communities and individuals. Also they agreed that the Ministerial Council on Gambling will auspice the development of a national strategic framework, to be implemented by State and Territory governments, around prevention, early intervention and continuing support, building effective partnerships and national research and evaluation.

‘The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey’ has been helping problem and compulsive gamblers as well as those affected by this illness since 1983. The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, Inc. was one of the pioneers in the compulsive gambling field and remains one of the leaders in providing professional and compassionate services to a wide range of audiences and they take no position neither for, nor against legalized gambling. The Council’s mission is to provide prevention, education and referral services to anyone affected by this illness in short help people to stop gambling.

Another is ‘First Nation Addiction Rehabilitation Foundation (FNARF)’ whose mission is to promote and maintain healthy lifestyles that enhance healthy individuals, families and communities also to promote peoples well being through increasing use of social, emotional, spiritual and physical resources. In addition they want to provide cost effective, holistic alternatives to deal with problem gambling activity.
