Effect of gambling in college sports

Sports gambling are
taking risk of money for the result of any sport event.
Gambling among college students has become very popular.
It is of the great concern among athletic
administration. Many students’ practices gambling while
they are in college and many athletes students gambled
on sports.
When college events are
held then many students practices gambling to earn
money. Students provide outsiders with the information
that is confidential for monetary gains. They also bet
for the game in which they are among the participants.
To win the bet they give poor performance knowingly.
This lead to the reduction in the college esteem. The
main purpose behind gambling for college students is fun
and earning money. Students are young; they are ready to
take risk. Gambling at the young age forms the habit for
rest of the life. Inter college competition is of no use
if sports gambling is practiced by the students.
Gambling leads to lower the integrity of the college and
inter college sports. Students wager their pocket money
on gambling. If pocket money is less to fulfill this
urge of gambling then they will not hesitate to adapt
wrong means to get some money. Gambling in relation to
the sports, which requires team is really bad for the
team even if one or two students are involved in
gambling. Innocent students also suffer in this case,
whole team pay the price of mistake committed by some
team members.
Illegal gambling hurts the innocent participants and
viewers of the inter college meet.
Ways
to control illegal gambling:
1. Find out the nature
and extend of gambling in the college sports.
Participants in college sports should be encouraged to
perform well in the college meet.
2. Non- athlete
students are also involved in gambling, level of
participation by these students in gambling should also
be determined.
3. Each and every sport
held at college level should be studied to get an
accurate measure of gambling.
4. College authorities
should make sure that any body among game officials is
not involved in gambling. If coaches, administrators or
referees are involved in gambling then it is a disaster
for the inter college sports meet.
5. There should be some
rules and regulations regarding punishment for the
gamblers in the college sports.
Students should be
educated for the odds and dangers of gambling.
Administrators and coaches should be educated how to
prevent gambling among students. Strict laws for the
participant gamblers should be there like forfeiture of
eligibility.
