AUTHOR: Jerry "Jet" Whittaker TITLE: The Paddy Power Poker Irish Open DATE: 7:35 AM ----- BODY: Day 1 of the Paddy Power Poker Irish Open was something of a marketing
dream. A record breaking field, some huge names in attendance and a few
legends of the game leading the pack. Day 2 was a journalistic nightmare,
the big names fell and players were busting like a £5 rebuy on a Friday
night. Never have we seen such fast action in a deepstack tournament and it
was impossible to keep a track of the busts and the chip counts which were
up and down like a yoyo. Dan Harrington, Mike Sexton, Mad Marty Wilson,
Surinder Sunar and David Benyamine all fell despite such dominating starts,
as did up and coming Paul Gourley who was the day 1 chip leader. Roland De
Wolfe lost his big stack early but has picked himself up and is gathering
momentum again, keep an eye on the WPT/EPT champion today to make some moves
towards the final table. The last hand of the night summed it up really.
Jerker Eriksson's Aces vs Danny D'Borin's Kings vs Frank Davis's Queens
creating the biggest pot of the night. Amazingly it is Danny D'Borin who
gained the most, becoming chip leader from the side pot and now has 450k.
Eriksson and D'Borin are our chip leaders and amongst the other big stacks
are Dusk Til Dawn's Paul Zimbler, who was crippled earlier down to 18k but
is well over 250,000 going into day 3. With only 41 players left and the pay
bubble very much burst don't expect the action to slow down, we are unsure
yet as to whether the final table will start today if we get to it, but get
to it early we almost definitely will! --------
