AUTHOR: Jerry "Jet" Whittaker TITLE: Annual Ride the Ridge Poker Run in April to benefit Special Olympics DATE: 2:34 AM ----- BODY: It's spring again, and for local motorcycle enthusiasts that also means time
for the Ride the Ridge Poker Run. April 14 is the date for the fifth annual
installment of the fundraiser, which offers a good time for participants
while raising money for Special Olympics Arkansas. The ride will begin at
the East Arkansas Community College Technical Center in Wynne and travel 100
miles through the Crowley's Ridge Parkway before ending at the Central
Arkansas Turbine hangar at the Forrest City Municipal Airport.
Pre-registration for the event is $25 and includes participation in the
poker run, a T-shirt, a pin, a coozie and a ticket for the many door prizes
available on the day of the event. Those who register on the day of the
event will also pay a $25 entry fee, which includes a T-shirt on a first
come, first served basis, a pin and a door prize ticket. All participants
with a paid entry fee will also receive a free crawfish and barbecue dinner
following the poker run. The dinner will be served at Central Arkansas
Turbine. The first bike out will leave at 10 a.m., with the last bike out
leaving the Tech Center at noon. The last bike will be accepted at the
airport at 3 p.m. The event will also include a 50/50 drawing and $100 to
the participant with the best hand. Along with door prizes, there will also
be an auction, and Tom and Tim's D.J. Service will provide entertainment.
"We just want everybody to come out and enjoy some good crawfish and good
barbecue and enjoy themselves while supporting a good cause," said Brenda
Warf with Special Olympics Arkansas Area 8. Area 8 includes St. Francis,
Cross, Monroe and Phillips counties, and the funds raised from the poker run
will benefit athletes in these counties. According to Warf, the event will
take place rain or shine. --------
