Metropolitan police Tuesday identified four people arrested in a raid on a
Far-Westside poker club. Nicholas N. Little, 27, Plainfield; Brian Little,
20, Fairland; Jonathan C. Price, 24, Indianapolis; and Brian D. McCarthy,
24, Plainfield, were arrested on a preliminary charge of promoting
professional gambling in a raid about 8 p.m. Monday. Police Lt. Doug
Scheffel said the raid was conducted after police received complaints. The
poker operation has been based for about a year at The Indy River Club, 7043
Girls School Road, in an industrial park north of Indianapolis International
Airport, Scheffel said. Vice officers issued misdemeanor-gambling citations
to 30 poker players, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police
Department report. Investigators seized about $5,400, Scheffel said. No
weapons were found on the premises. This is the second raid of a poker club
in Indianapolis as police continue a crackdown on illegal gambling, which
Scheffel said would continue indefinitely. "I'm told this is an ongoing work
in progress." In March, three people were arrested and 60 were cited in a
raid of a Texas Hold 'em poker game at the Indianapolis Pinnacle Club, 3900
block of Pendleton Way, a poker club believed to have been frequented by
police officers. An investigation of that operation is continuing. Gambling
businesses known as pea-shake houses also have been busted, with at least 20
people arrested and about 30 others receiving citations alleging gambling or
visiting a common nuisance.
