The World Poker Tour's World Poker Challenge is scheduled to start Sunday at
the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, and if this year is anything
like last year, the winner will walk away from the event with more than $1
million for his or her $5,000 buy-in. CardPlayer.com will be there for the
entire championship, providing our readers with live chip updates and
reports from the tournament floor. Click here to view the live tournament
updates page. Last year, Mike Simon outlasted 591 players to win the
$1,052,890 prize. The best-known pro to make it to the final table was Barry
Greenstein, but luckily for Simon and the rest of the final table
participants, Greenstein was the first to go. This year, the event runs from
March 23 to March 28. Last year's entries generated a prize pool of more
than $2.8 million, and this year's prize pool is expected to be in the same
ball park. Two days after the World Poker Challenge, The WPT jets to the
east coast for the Foxwoods Poker Classic, which starts March 30. After
that, it heads back to Nevada for the $25,000 WPT World Championship, which
starts April 21.
