<p class="mobile-post">It used to be perfectly legal to participate in online poker and other forms
of online gambling in South Africa, until when in 2004 the government
outlawed online poker and gambling with the National Gambling Act in order
to research the best approach to regulating and taxing these industries. A
two year period was granted to Trade and Industry Minister Mandisi Mpahlwa
to come up with an answer, and that time is drawing to a close. Experts who
have been following the progress of the process say that it is very likely
that South Africa will come out on the side of regulation and taxation,
rather than banning online poker.</p>
